What is a Vape Pen?

Vaporizers are increasingly becoming popular because of the ability to experience the satisfaction you get from smoking, without exposing your body or lungs to the harmful carcinogens and chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes. This makes it a great alternative for someone who is trying to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. It’s a new and growing industry, but there are many different vaporizers and vape pens already available on the market. Currently the vape pen is one of the most popular type of vaporizer in the vaping community. Mainly because it’s easy to use and because of it’s small and discreet size. They’re called vape pens because of their shape and size which resembles a fountain pen. Although the vape pen and electronic cigarette function and look very similar, they are not the same thing. The main benefit of using a vape pen over an electronic cigarette is the freedom to add your own choice of dry herbs, oils, or waxes. With many companies making new and tasty flavours everyday, it makes no sense to buy an electronic cigarette when you can buy vaporizer or vape pen and enjoy a variety of flavors and quality vapor.

How does a vape pen work?

How does a vape pen work you ask? Vaporizers and vape pens heat your choice of dry oils, wax, or dry blended herbs to a temperature that releases an aromatic and flavorful vapor that is then inhaled by the user. Many people do not fully understand that there are vaporizers and vape pens designed to be used specifically with dry herbs and others that are designed to be used specifically with oils and wax. Dry herbs normally begin to vaporize once heated to a temperature around 360°F. Oils and wax begin to vaporize at a much higher temperature which is why devices designed for oils and wax burn hotter. You cannot use dry herbs in a device designed to be used with oils and wax and vice versa. Vaporizers and vape pens are engineered so the heating temperature is hot enough to produce vapors, but not hot enough to combust any of the oils, wax, or dry herbs. Since it never combusts any of the material, no harmful chemical or carcinogens are exposed to your body or lungs with this smokeless system.

There are two different methods used to heat the material used in your vaporizer or vape pen. The original method was conduction. In this method the material is in direct contact with the heating element. This method works great with the exception that the heating element is only heating the side of the material in direct contact with it. Even if you increase the heating temperature, by the time you reach a temperature hot enough to reach the other sides you will be combusting the material in the the vaporizer or vape pen which defeats the whole idea and benefit of this smokeless system. This was the biggest flaw that made this design inefficient.

After many trials and tests they came up with the brilliant idea to design vaporizers and vape pens using a convection heating method. In this method the dry herbs, oils, or wax is heated by hot air that is produced when air passes over an extremely hot heating element. The heating element only comes in contact with the air and never directly contacts the material used in the vaporizer or vape pen. Through this method, you’re able to heat the material evenly, unlike the conduction method, making this new design much more efficient. The only downside to the newer convection method is these types of vaporizers and vape pens tend to cost more due to the technology and engineering used in the new design. Vape connoisseurs will tell you the extra cost is without a doubt worth the new design. Mainly because of the efficiency and the quality vapor these vaporizers and vape pens produce. Everyone has a slightly different budget, it’s up to you to decide how much you’re willing to invest on your vape pen.
